Running again

Did my run yesterday, my muscles are still soring. I was running slowly last week (running uphill and then down), so this time, I tried to run as fast as I could on a track for 1 mile and then rest two minutes, repeated for 4 sets. I could do 2 minutes / lap (.25 mile or 400m lap) for the the first set. The second set was around 2m 8s / lap. The third set, my speed dropped to 2m 10s / lap, but I was able to run 2 miles non-stop. The last set I ran the same 2m 10s / lap, but only able to do 1.5 miles.

I think I did not stretch enough. Luckily I found this web site, showing me how to stretch for running. I will try the new stretching techniques next week.

CSS

As a programmer, I always want to (or MUST) learn new technologies. I am doing system programming, but I need to write a web page or two from time to time (I wonder why I need to do this. I have been writing hacks to intercept Windows system calls; network device drivers and packets sniffer; to GUI program and Web pages... What have I done in my last life to deserve this? :D). Knowing how to do CSS is still cool :)

How to choose meat

Neat! How to choose meat. I am not a meat-meat lover. Still, sometimes I enjoy a good steak or Chinese-style beef stew. Knowing the meaning of Prime / Choice / Select is helpful (although I already knew the meaning when I looked at the price :D)

Gmail RSS

Didn't know Gmail has the RSS feature. So I can read new mails from Bloglines. Nice!

Hibernation

Some mad scientists found a way to put a mice into hibernation, and then wake it up again without nasty side-effect. This is good. Soon we might be able to do space travel beyond the solar system.

I found one thing interesting. They used H2S (Hydrogen Sulfhide) to put the mice to sleep. See, this is one of the ingredients in our fart. Honey, you can't sleep? Thats ok, I just had a all beans dinner. You will hibernate... eh... fall asleep in no time!

A Star War joke

Obi-Wan and Luke were both very hungry after their long speeder trip to that wretched hive of scum and villiany, Mos Eisley. They settled themselves in a cantina and ordered a big dinner of noodles, rice, sweet and sour dewback, and other oriental style goodies.

The food soon arrived and they set to. Obi-Wan handled his chopsticks deftly, quickly and securely picking up a noodle here, a prawn ball there. He soon sat back satisfied, and let out a quiet burp.

Luke, on the other hand, was in a right state. He just couldn't get the hang of the sticks, and had dropped far more food on the table and down his front than he had managed to get into his mouth. He sat, surrounded by rice and noodle debris, still as hungry as when he started.

Seeing his pupil in such distress, the Jedi Master leant over to dispense some of the wisdom of his years.

Use the forks, Luke he whispered, Use the forks.

(Copied from a comment on Slashdot. Oh, the article is about some Star war fans produced their own Star War movie. They have way too much time than I do...)

10K-run training

I am training with my friends for a 10 km run. How much time to run 10 km? Hmmm, the 2002 world record is around 30 minutes. That is, around 3 mins / km (or 5 min / mile). My speed is around 5.4 mins / km (or 9 min / mile), running on track. I hope to improve my speed to 4.8 mins / km (or 8 min / mile) within 1 year.

Yesterday was my first time to run uphill. That was TOUGH! I became very tired when going uphill. I even have headaches after I ran to the top... Not enough oxygen for my brain :P Definitely need more traning!

Alright, here is the new entry :)

Someone wanted to see more posting... Ok, here is a new one. I just found this software for Windows (via Tech Info Blog). It emulate the Apple Mac OS X interface. Impressive! Also, their website works just like a Mac desktop!

Homeless geek

This is a funny story, but also a sad story. A homeless geek living in New YOrk, lugging his desktop computer with him, sitting in a Starbuck everyday YM-ing, dreaming to meet his missing half. The blogger gave him some money for his birthday and guess what, he immediately spend it on, a used LCD, a keyboard, and memory stick :P
